These are some bits and excerpts of reviews and interviews,
taken from Argentine music magazines, about Martin Knye's career over these years. They are presented
in cronological order. |
|
"...and who is Martin Knye?, well, no more and no less than one of
the youngest promises of the local guitar scene, with a style and technique that
reminds us of great Yngwie Malmsteen."
"METAL" Magazine - July 1987
"Martin Knye is the closest local Malmsteen disciple you could ask
for... The demo tape contains 3 songs in the Hard Rock style, where Knye rips on
acoustic and electric guitars, letting us apreciate his undeniable talent."
"METAL" Magazine - May 1988
"With only 20 years old Martin Knye is one of the most talented
musicians the Argentine Heavy Metal history remembers."
"METAL" Magazine - July 1988
"El Fuego Sagrado", is the best possible synthesis of Knye's musical height and performing powers.
Dense, majestic, even dramatic, the record plays one after one, songs like "El Fuego Sagrado",
"Soledad"... Reminding us of vintage "Rising Force", this album presents a new dimension of Argentine Heavy Metal."
"METAL" Magazine - May 1989
"Martin Knye delighted guitar fans through a solo in wich he even
played with his teeth, a la Jimi Hendrix."
"METAL" Magazine - June 1990
"The Martin Knye´s incorporation was accelerated as for he had no time in order
to work that he should have worked.. Sooner or later Martin was going to touch with us. In order to play with Daniel it´s necessary a
musician of the capacity of Martin and to the inverse."
Roberto Cossedu, "MADHOUSE" Magazine- November 1990
"Martin is a musician that has an impressive talent and could play
any musical style. He was locked in that musical style because their band played that musical style, then the people were questioned on that Martin made
in Kamikaze. But Martin gave samples that het could play other styles.
The Argentineans are (we are) very of labeling us in everything and I believe that
Martin demonstrated that he don't only play what the people knew, but rather you
touch other musical styles."
Roberto Cossedu, "MADHOUSE" Magazine- November 1990
"6 years ago, when the Neo-Classical style just begun to arrive
and pick up fans in Argentina, a name started to show up: Martin Knye. Word was
spoken that a great young guitarrist, was playing pretty much the same style,
wich no one had ever listened nor witnessed in Argentina. As time went by, that
style grew up in popularity, and Martin Knye started gainin more fans.
Soon enough the comparisons begun, and he started to be idolized by some and
criticated by others; nevertheless, at that time he was THE ONLY ONE capable
of playing that way."
"OVERDRIVE" Magazine - August 1992
"Virtuosity and good taste are words that perfectly describes
the tape. From songs in the Neo-Classical vein, to instrumental "pearls" like
Mariano Mores's "Taquito Militar" and Schubert's "Ave Maria", Knye shows that
when it comes to guitar playing, he knows what's all about."
"GENERACION X" Magazine - June 1999
"...it is Martin's guitar, the center of Magiar's compositions,
wich shouldn't bee too surprising, given the guitarrist's skill to effortlessly
rip through every string and fret of his instrument, at mind-bogglin speeds"
"EPOPEYA" Magazine - December 1999
"he record exhudes energy on every track, and brings us brilliant
pieces like "Twister" and "Lagrima Azul" (Blue Tear), that shows the potential of
the guitarrist, and a very tight band."
"EPOPEYA" Magazine - February 2001
"Taking Hard Rock as its basic springboard, the album shows the
way to move between Rock, Heavy, Power, and varied instrumental songs, revealing
a miriad of different influences (Blackmore, Malmsteen, Van Halen, Vai, Satriani,
Clapton, Hendrix etc.)...undoubtly Martin is a master of his instrument, but when
it comes to play for the song, he just goes for it. Sound? good and accordingly to the record."
"El CORTE" Newspaper- March 2001
"...the level of skill reached by Knye on the six strings is
pretty much extraordinaire, but mind you, the guitar shines, within each song own
context."
"POWER MUSIC" - March 2001
"Probably a work of this magnitude, will be hard to find on these
days, not only sound-wise, but mainly song writing and performing-wise speaking.
This solo work of Martin Knye and his band contains 13 songs, where virtuosity
and good taste are present"
"CENTURIA" Magazine - April 2001
"From the opening track,
Martin Knye makes clear his mastery on the six strings, leading to the opening
song "Twister" in the best Judas Priest tradition. ..."Magiar" with spanish guitar,
and its Flamenco "aire"(groove), precedes the heavy metal mayhem of
"Maldicion Gitana"(Gypsy Curse)... With a surprise like "Lagrima Azul" (Blue Tear)
( a la Hendrix, Vaughan)... hard rock record that rest over the shoulders of
an excelent instrumentalist."
"Music Shop" Magazine - September 2001
This one was found on the web, from a Japanese site, there
are some mispellings, but it is left as it was originally written.
"An album of melodic hard rock band MAGIAR from Argentina,
perhaps it's a debut album and the only stuff from this band so far. MAGIAR
is a project fully controlled by guitar player Martin Knye.
I don't know his career in detail, but it's said that he was a member of the bands
like LZ2, KAMIKAZE, also was a guitar instructor. This CD contains 10 tracks and
3 demo tracks as bonus, 5 tracks from them are instrumental song. Since he is
from Arigentina, the album could be compared with RATA BLANCA guitarist Walter
Giardino's solo album , but MAGIAR plays more blues influenced hard rock songs
than Walter. However, there are 3 tracks of neo-classical tune which will suit
Japanese taste and worth checking out if you are a fan of this genre. Martin's
playings are a bit of rough overall album, while in the phrasings,
more impressive than Walter's one. Also songs are in variety as an acoustic
song with the tango music elements #4, a very emotional blues instrumental #8,
etc. To be honest, I'd want him to make a whole neo-classical album, and wish
he will complete it in near future. (11/06/2001)
